Are you facing and solving the same problems over and over?
- Has your business reached a plateau and seems stuck?
- Are you the only one who seems to be able to do things right?
- If you took a month off, would your business be in a shambles?
If you said yes, you're not alone.
These are just a few of the common challenges that you can learn to overcome once and for all at the Contractor's Business School
Do either of these situations sound familiar?
You are a skilled tradesman who started a business to provide a better life for yourself and your family. You expected that by becoming a business owner, you would enjoy more money, time, freedom, and independence. But you've ended up...
Or, you may have inherited a family business. You watched your parents build a successful business, but at too high a cost. They missed quality family time because they were always immersed in day-to-day operations. You appreciate and respect what they accomplished, but you don't want to pay such a high personal price to continue. You know there must be a better way.
Either way, because you were good, the jobs came and your business grew. And with growth came employees, multiple jobs, bids, inventory, trucks, leases, insurance, regulations, callbacks, etc.
Now that your business is more complex, the challenges of running your business have multiplied. The result: you spend your time fighting fires, under stress, and working too many hours.
Even though you've managed to hold everything together the balancing act is taking it's toll and you wonder if the promise of entrepreneurship is a cruel joke, rather than a road to the better life you envisioned.
Case Study: D And K Electric
Dan has owned and operated D and K Electric since 1982. In 2005 he decided
he wanted to transition to focus the company on larger project based work.
He also wanted to position the business to for growth to accommodate current
employees and potential future employees.
“I knew where I wanted to take the business, but on my own I was having
trouble getting there,” recalls Dan. “I was getting bogged down
in the day-to-day and unable to stay focused on the long term. I was wearing
too many hats and being pulled in too many directions doing menial tasks
that should be done by someone else.”
The Process:
CBS helped Dan create a vision with clear objectives for where he wanted
to take the business over next 3-5 years. We clarified Dan’s role,
targeting the key areas where need needed to spend his time.
Next, we developed Dan’s delegation and communication skills and created
job descriptions for his staff. This allowed him to start to let go of much
of the work he thought he had to do himself.
The results:
Within months, he could feel the benefits of applying strategic thinking
and overall management processes to run the business. The most profound
result of the CBS process was that Dan could now focus on managing the business,
rather than reacting.
“CBS helped me to get my arms around my business, and the coaching
concept really worked for me,” says Dan. “I’d been in
business 20 years and gotten comfortable with the status quo. CBS pushed
me out of my rut and got me thinking about and applying the things I never
seemed able to get around to.”
“Now, my guys proactively do things (like washing trucks). By putting
processes in place, they know what’s expected of them, and are more
likely to do it.”
